When we think of the Social evils of our Society, Dowry is one of the main evils. The gift exchanging between the families has been changed into a ceremony of social atrocity. The Oxford Dictionary defines it as an amount of property or Money brought by the bride to her husband on their marriage. Dowry is a social menace and is one of the main reasons for abuse of married women. A dowry is a transfer of parental property gifts or money at the marriage of 24 a daughter. The dowry is known as KANYADAAN in Indian marriage. KANYADAAN or STRIDHAN is an important part of Hindu Marital rites. Kanya- daughter Dhaan – dhana (gift). 

Rabindranath Tagore, one of India’s If not Asia’s greatest philosophers once said “Marriage in India (Sri-Lanka), also is a form of glorified prostitution because of the Dowry System. “Mahatma Gandhi says “Any young man, who makes DOWRY a condition to marriage, discredits his education and his Country and dishonors womanhood.” But this practice continues in the plantation sector because of this, parents see their daughters as a burden to their life. This Social Evil has destroyed many lives of women.

During my school days I met a girl in our church youth group. She was a girl with a good heart and was friendly. We worked together for many youth events, one day i heard that she committed suicide because of a  dowry issue. The groom was asking for more Dowry from her brother for the marriage. She heard this and she was worried. Later she thought she was a burden to the family and she destroyed her life.

DOWRY is a Social devil,

We should speak about this, we should create awareness and we should be an example in our life.

  உடைத்தல் + உருவாக்குதல்  வாலிபனான இயேசு சமூகத்தில் நடக்கும் ஒவ்வொரு காரியங்களையும் கூர்ந்து கவனிக்கும் ஆற்றல் கொண்டவர்.  சிறு வயது தொடக்கம் அவருக்கும், அவருடைய நண்பர்களுக்கும், அவருடைய ஊர் மக்களுக்கு எதிராக நடக்கும் அநியாயங்களையும், அநீதிகளையும், வெறுப்புகளையும், மறுப்புக்களையும், ஏமாற்றுக்களையும், அவதானித்தவராகவும் அவற்றை அனுபவித்தவராகவுமே அவர் வாழ்ந்து வந்தார்.   இயேசு கலிலேயாவில் நாசரேத் என்னும் சிற்றூரில் வளர்ந்து வந்தார். இப்பகுதிகளில்  உழைக்கும் வர்க்கமான தொழிலாளர்களே  அதிகமாக வாழ்ந்து வந்தனர்.  மீனவர்கள்,தச்சர்கள், விவசாயிகள்,மேய்ப்பர்கள்,கூலி தொழில் செய்பவர்களே  இப்பகுதியில் அதிகமாக காணப்பட்டனர். அதிகாரத்தில் இருப்பவர்கள் உழைக்கும் வர்க்கத்தினரை படிப்பறிவு அற்றவர்களாகவும், அசுத்தமானவர்களாகவும், பாவிகளாகவே கருதினர். பதவியில் இருந்தோர் இவர்களை தாழ்நிலையினராகவும் கீழ் நிலையினராகவும் நடத்தினர்.  கலிலேய மக்கள் விடுதலை சிந்தை உடையவர்கள்,அவர்கள் எப்போதும்  தங்கள் அடக்குமுறைக்கு எதிராக குரல் கொடுப்பவர்களாகவே வாழ்ந்து வந்தனர். அவர்...
