தொட்டியின் மகன்

 #Toottiyinmakan “Scavenger’s Son”

This is a very challenging story to read about the lives of the Manual Scavengers who lived in Kerala. They were taken from tamilnadu to Kerala to do menial Jobs in the society finally they were pushed into this inhuman task.

For generations they were fighting for their lives and dignity. But they were oppressed and Ostracized in the community.

They were not considered as humans, they were treated as animals. In the beginning of the story, when the main character Sudalamuthu was trying to find food for his father, he gets this reply from the shopkeeper

This novel challenged me to think of the brothers and Sisters who are been exploited and marginalized in our society.

This novel was written by #Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai, in 1947 in Malayalam. This was translated to Tamil by #Sundararamasamy
